AI Agents Reduce Days To Minutes For Legal Document Summary, Redlining and Analysis At Multinational Legal Practice
Days reduced to minutes to review legal documents and draft responses in natural language
Consolidated data sources has reduced precedence discovery time and improved information security across the entire firm
Background
This leading multinational law practice, headquartered in the United Kingdom and ranked among the world’s top 50 firms, has close to £1 billion in annual revenue. The practice is specialised in supporting FTSE and Fortune 250 organisations, providing cross-border legal advice and services at-scale.
The firm was dealing with hundreds of requests per day to review a wide range of legal documents and answer complex queries. Across dozens of legal experts, the same question might be answered multiple times in different ways (and even different languages), with no central solution to consolidate information and save time on precedent discovery.
Staff needed to search poorly maintained internal knowledge bases, or consult colleagues for items such as precedence discovery. Safeguarding confidential information is essential and therefore the customer had exempted the use of public AI models.
However, the leadership team saw an opportunity to use generative AI to speed up research and strengthen accuracy of advice, based on trusted internal data sources, all whilst maintaining client confidentiality.
Solution
We built a custom knowledge management and AI chat solution using large language models, model context protocol (MCP), AI agents and cloud-native engineering practices.
Our solution used advanced tagging and search techniques so users can access accurate and similar legal precedence information instantly, to provide employees with confidence about the origin and authenticity of the results.
Features include:
Document review, with automated markup suggestions and justifications for terminology based on existing precedence and industry requirements.
The ability to use AI to redline legal documents and draft new content.
Managed security, privacy and user access, ensuring legal professionals could only retrieve case management information that they had access to.
Impact
Redline markups time has been reduced by 70%.
Time savings of 60% for sourcing information and identifying legal precedence reported across the firm.
Improved customer satisfaction, thanks to the ability to assess and respond to legal enquiries faster and more accurately.
As the solution is rolled out, the customer is now exploring ways to take on more cases, new opportunities to grow revenue and maintain operational overheads.
Why WeBuild-AI
Instead of choosing an off-the-shelf “buy” solution, this law firm chose to go custom and build their own AI solution to guarantee it addressed every single use case, was fully compliant across the entire organisation and wouldn’t incur runaway costs in infrastructure or tiered pricing. By going with this approach, they have been able to mould the solution to their exact internal use cases, reducing siloed use of other tools across departments and ensure compliance in a highly-regulated industry.
