What’s your role here at WeBuild-AI?

I'm a Full-Stack Developer who refuses to pick a lane (and that's entirely by design). One moment I'm knee-deep in a proof-of-concept for a client, the next I'm spelunking through our internal AI platform, Pathway, expanding integrations and MCPs. Think of me as a technical Swiss Army knife with a particular fondness for making AI do interesting things.

My days are a delightful mix of rapid prototyping, architecture deep-dives and the occasional "how did that break?" investigation. I work across the entire software lifecycle, from that exciting whiteboard scribble phase all the way to production deployment. Building features that scale? That's the stuff that gets me out of bed. Well, that and espresso.

Outside of work hours, you'll find me obsessively monitoring the AI and tech landscape. It's not homework, it's a hobby that happens to make me better at my job. Every new breakthrough or framework is a potential idea waiting to be brought into what we do.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My mornings start with a ritual: reviewing the previous day's notes and expanding each bullet point into actual tasks. It's like archaeology, but for my own thoughts.

Currently, I'm juggling multiple client projects alongside Pathway development, which keeps things wonderfully unpredictable. Some days I'm crafting an integration that needs to work across cloud platforms. Other days I'm ensuring our systems scale gracefully when demand spikes.

The common thread? Building things that deliver real value, not just impressive demos.

The WeBuild-AI team operates with a brilliant mix of independence and collaboration. We share knowledge constantly - and I mean constantly. Someone discovers a better approach at 10am and by noon the whole team knows about it. That's the kind of environment where you can't help but grow.

What’s your career journey been like so far?

Plot twist: my first job was being a lifeguard on the coast of Portugal, near Lisbon. I surfed every chance I got! 🏄‍♂️ The Atlantic waves were my office, the beach was my break room. Not a bad start to a career, honestly.

But even then, the tech bug was biting. After completing my professional course in IT Management and Programming, I threw myself into the startup world. I participated in a week-long startup factory and ended up presenting our project at Microsoft's Lisbon HQ. Then, in what remains a peak "young Bruno" moment, I collaborated on a Bike Anti-Theft Alarm System that made it onto Shark Tank Portugal (Dragon's Den for you Brits). Yes, really. No, we didn't become millionaires. Yes, it was an incredible experience.

Eventually, I traded Portuguese sunshine for British weather (a decision I still question every rainy Tuesday) and moved to the UK to study Computer Science. After graduating with a BSc, I launched my career as a Software Engineer in London.

Over time, I gravitated towards Full-Stack Engineering because I wanted to understand the whole picture, not just my corner of it. Frontend, backend, infrastructure, deployment. That's when I discovered my genuine passion: building systems powered by LLMs. There's something magical about creating solutions that process information at incredible speeds and translate it into natural language insights. It feels like the future and I get to build it.

I've worked in startups (founding engineer for a SaaS platform, no less), agencies, digital marketing and eventually found my home in consulting. What excites me most is collaborating with large organisations to implement solutions using lean and agile methodologies, especially when the challenge requires bringing in outside specialists to deliver something truly innovative.

What do you enjoy the most about your job here?

The team at WeBuild-AI is, quite simply, brilliant. We collaborate, we challenge each other, we learn together every single day. It's a fast-paced, demanding environment and exactly the kind of place where you grow both as an engineer and as a person.

There's no coasting here. Everyone brings their A-game, and that energy is contagious. When you're surrounded by people who genuinely care about doing excellent work, you can't help but raise your own standards.

Engineers: what’s a piece of code/work you’ve recently written that you’d be proud to show your past self, and why?

Building and expanding the integrations system in Pathway has been the highlight of my time here. It's the kind of work that keeps you up at night (in a good way) - ensuring it works across different cloud platforms, scales with demand and delivers quality results every time.

There's something deeply satisfying about building infrastructure that just works, no matter what you throw at it. Past Bruno, who was hacking together JavaScript and PHP in his early days, would be impressed.

I've also published an open-source Claude toolkit for the community to collaborate on and enjoy. Contributing to the ecosystem that's shaping the future of AI feels like the right thing to do and it's been brilliant seeing other developers pick it up and run with it.

How many languages do you speak (and which ones)?

Portuguese (native), English (fluent), and Spanish (passable). I'm also slowly learning Greek - "Yamas!" 🥂 As for technical languages... let's just say the list would take up more space than this entire blog post.

Coffee or tea?

Espresso. It's not just a drink, it's a way of living.

Go-to playlist or genre for deep focus work?

No music, just the sound of my keyboard. There's a rhythm to coding that I don't want interrupted. Call it mechanical meditation.

Complained about the weather and had a few pints at the pub.

Are you a nerd (and if so, what topics are you nerdiest in)?

Absolutely. Innovation and new tech, obviously. TV shows (I have opinions). Travel destinations (always researching the next adventure). And the definitive, non-negotiable truth: the best anime will always be Dragon Ball Z. I will die on this hill.

What’s one thing people in work are surprised to learn about you personally?

I am an excellent cook! 🐙🐟 Portuguese seafood traditions run deep, and I take them very seriously. If you ever want to know the proper way to prepare octopus, I'm your guy.
