What’s your role here at WeBuild-AI?

I am Finance Director for WeBuild-AI and I oversee all financial aspects of the business. My main responsibilities include making sure we have a clear financial view of the business now and a plan for the next phase. I would say the two most important metrics for our business at the moment are cashflow and revenue growth. I track all company KPIs and flag any risks to the founders. I also manage WeBuild-AI’s budgets, forecasts, company spend and report on business performance to support decision making. My role is both strategic and hands-on at the same time and I really enjoy it!

What does a typical day look like for you?

In a fast growing business like ours, things move very quickly.

Each day is different, but the main priorities are to keep up with changes and make sure they are reflected in the numbers. This involves updating our resourcing plan, which impacts our financial forecast and cashflow. I also keep a close eye on the deal pipeline and any changes to project delivery plans.

Other typical things I do include: anything from banking, payroll, tax, HMRC compliance, month-end close, customer billings to pricing strategies, working capital management, building financial models and lots more.

What’s your career journey been like so far?

I am originally from Poland where I studied Management and Marketing at University of Warsaw. I also studied for one year at Budapest University as part of Socrates-Erasmum student exchange program.

I moved to the UK after graduating and my first job was at a market research company within customer services, but I decided to pursue a career in finance and transitioned to the finance team whilst undertaking professional accounting studies (CIMA). I then worked for one of the Big 4 professional services firms for 4 years and then a DevOps Consultancy for 8 years, initially as financial controller, and then Head of Finance.

I joined WeBuild-AI as Finance Director in June this year, after my maternity leave. I have over 15 years experience in finance, including building out finance functions, implementing systems, processes and controls.

I also volunteered at the Met Police as a Special Constable for 1.5 years. A completely different experience to my typical finance world!

What do you enjoy the most about your job here?

The WeBuild-AI team is great, everyone is friendly and helpful. I enjoy working with people with no egos who can roll up their sleeves and just get things done, regardless of their role or seniority. I like transparency, quick decisions and ownership.

I also value flexibility and hybrid working. As a mum, it is very important to me to feel like I can give 100% at work while also being able to do the school drop off and pick ups and, more importantly, spend some time with my family in the evenings. Juggling work commitments with family life and childcare just seems easy and stress free at WeBuild-AI.
